South Bench Drive Viewing Party

3 weeks ago a small group met after a late city meeting.  It was realized that so many citizens were still unaware of our general plan, and a big concern for many of us, the proposed South Bench Drive. And so they got to work!  Ideas started flowing and it was decided to do a documentary style film with drone footage of the actual route of South Bench Drive. Within 24 hours a location was reserved and  and a videographer secured.  Within 72 hours interviews were lined up for residents who are knowledgeable of our lands and who will be directly impacted by this road the most.  By the end of the week, assignments for invitations, decorations and flyers were made.  Another week later the interviews were completed, facts were gathered and presented and maps and sources documented. Two days before the event, over 50 volunteers covered the entire city with flyers to help people be aware that our general plan public comment was coming to a close and of our South Bench Drive Viewing Party. There is power in numbers!!



I feel the Viewing Party was a huge success!  It started at 5:30 with showings happening every 30 minutes.  There was a fundraiser going on to help cover the costs of putting the event together which was greatly supported.  Over 130 people attended.  Lots of questions were asked and answered.



Overall it was just great community involvement!
