Recap: Planning Commission

Quick recap from the planning meeting last night. We had a great turn out. It was another long meeting (3 hours before public could comment) but very good I think. It was very educational to watch the actual planning of our city take place and our planning commission deserves a pat on the back. It is a lot of work and dedication! Commissioner Walton I felt brought up a lot of great questions and thoughts.

The mixed use overlay still stands but is yet to be defined. So as a community we need offer feedback to be on what we want it to look like. I think they definitely felt our presence and were aware that things they were proposing were going to be met with backlash and therefore they didn’t go about it quite as easily if they were in an empty room. The comments were great and I felt most of the commission was very open to our feedback.

Some things we need to consider as a community. The word “walkable community” came up often. This would be something like what you see near the junction in down town Ogden. Much of the planning of residential neighborhoods and even commercial were built on this idea. If your vision for the future of south weber is not this, please let them know.

Once again I had to point out we DO NOT have to have HDH. We can still get our funds and NOT have HDH. If you hear this come up again, know that it is incorrect. We legally do not have to have it.

One pit got zoned for commercial highway which made me laugh. I don’t know what commercial place wants to go in a pit completely unable to be seen from the freeway but okay.

There was a lot of discussion about south bench drive and the dangers of going over the bluff. These are not unwarranted concerns. Keep yourself informed on this.

There wasn’t much talk about upcoming public events, but it did sound like an open house and a survey will be coming soon. I will keep ya’ll posted. ðŸ˜Šif anyone who was there has more to add please do so in the comments!

See the meeting minutes, audio and packet.
